LINDERHOF CASTLE.
Distance from Alpenhotel Ammerwald: 11.5 kilometres (approx. 12 minute drive). Built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria between 1870 and 1879 in the Rococo style, Linderhof Palace is one of the fairytale king's most magnificent creations. Explore the sumptuously furnished rooms and wonderfully spacious gardens.
KLOSTER ETTAL.
Distance from Alpenhotel Ammerwald: 22 kilometres (approx. 20 minute drive). Kloster Ettal is a Baroque monastery in the Upper Bavarian village of Ettal, about ten kilometres north of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and south-east of Oberammergau. Founded in 1330, the Benedictine monastery is now a popular tourist attraction.
NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE.
Distance from Alpenhotel Ammerwald: 33 kilometres (approx. 35 minute drive). Neuschwanstein Castle was also built for King Ludwig II of Bavaria – built on a high rocky ridge near Schwangau, the sprawling fairytale castle is visible from afar. Highlights include the Singers' Hall, the Throne Room and the stunning views. Good to know: Tickets are only available online.
HOHENSCHWANGAU CASTLE.
Distance from Alpenhotel Ammerwald: 33 kilometres (approx. 35 minute drive). Rebuilt from a picturesque castle ruin by Crown Prince Maximilian of Bavaria and his artist-architect, the complex has been preserved as an exceptional architectural monument from the Romantic period. If you are interested in the life of King Ludwig II, the decorative design of the castle in Hohenschwangau will give you an idea of the origins of his interest in legends and myths.
WIESKIRCHE.
Distance from Alpenhotel Ammerwald: 50 kilometres (approx. 45 minute drive). Built between 1746 and 1752, the "Pilgrimage Church of the Flagellated Saviour" is considered a major work of German Rococo and one of the richest sacred buildings of this style. Be inspired by the breathtaking architecture of this church.
STIFT STAMS.
Distance from Alpenhotel Ammerwald: 71 kilometres (approx. 1 hour 15 minute drive). The two striking onion domes of the magnificent Cistercian monastery of Stams Abbey, founded in 1273, can be seen from afar. A guided tour of the abbey reveals its precious treasures and magnificent rooms. A visit to the monastery shop is also recommended.
FÜSSEN.
Distance from Alpenhotel Ammerwald: 30 kilometres (approx. 30 minute drive). The lively old part of the picturesque town of Füssen has a 700 year old tradition. The other parts of the town, set in beautiful countryside, are undoubtedly highlights of any visit.
GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN.
Distance from Alpenhotel Ammerwald: 37 kilometres (approx. 40 minute drive). Garmisch-Partenkirchen captivates with its originality, vibrancy, and Bavarian charm. Distance from Alpenhotel Ammerwald: 100 kilometres (approx. 1 hour 40 minute drive). With its location, surrounded by an impressive mountain backdrop, Innsbruck is a centre of attraction for many guests.
